The Batterers Intervention &Treatment Program (BIT), based on the Duluth Model for domestic violence intervention, is designed to help domestic violence perpetrators understand the domestic violence cycle, including the emotional and psychological process that contributes to their decisions to become violent and aggressive. The underlying goal of the program is victim safety. Treatment is designed to help participants reduce the potential of violent behavior by developing alternative skills to manage conflicts and achieve increased physical, psychological, and emotional control.
The 26-week program involves weekly 90-minute group sessions. Participants are referred by other agencies, the court system, or by self referral.
